Tattoo After Care

AFTER CARE

Second Skin

  1. Leave bandage on for 24 hours - Please note that if goop forms underneath your bandage that is normal, and you do not need to remove the bandage unless it leaks or has been 24 hours.

  2. Wash hands thoroughly.

  3. Remove bandage in the shower, the warm water helps to loosen the adhesive. Start at the top two corners of your Saniderm and peel downward away from your body.
Never remove your Second Skin or Saniderm dry it can peel the ink out of the skin and cause scabbing.

  4. Your tattoo area may be red or wrinkly after the adhesive is removed until your skin calms down, this is normal.

Traditional Bandage

  1. Keep Bandage on for 2-4 hours. (2 hours minimum)

  2. Wash your hands thoroughly

  3. Remove Bandage

  4. Wash and cleanse the tattoo, as well as the surrounding area with mildly warm to hot water and liquid antibacterial gentle cleanser or soft soap from a pump bottle. Use only your fingertips in a circular motion to remove all blood, in, and remaining traces of liquids and ointments.

Do not use washcloths, paper towels, loofas, scented soaps, beaded soaps, or anything abrasive.

  5. After removing the bandage and gently cleaning the tattoo pat gently with a dry clean paper towel and let the area air dry for at least 5-10 minutes before applying any aftercare products.

  6. We understand there are many products in the market for “healing” a tattoo, we recommend a water based, fragrance free lotion like Eucerin. It is important to not oversaturate the area. You ideally want a thin layer covering your tattoo.

  7. Your tattoo is a wound in its basic definition keeping your tattoo clean until it is fully healed will help prolong and preserve your tattoo.

Do not expose your tattoo to soaking in a bath, river, pool, or beach of any kind. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight and excessive sweating for the first week at least.

If your tattoo flakes or has scabs, do not pick at it!
Check in with your tattoo artist after a month or two when the tattoo is fully healed. You can get a free touch up within a year. Please send your artist a healed photo. They are much appreciated!
For the long term health of your tattoo, remember to always wear sunscreen.
